Orange blossom and neroli: the Citrus Maxima Petite Candle

BotanicaOct 22, 2026

For a first orange blossom candle, the House suggests Citrus Maxima as a Petite Candle · 70 g / 2.4 oz: it is built around mandora and orange blossom, with neroli and petitgrain. This small format burns for about 20 hours and comes in each of Maison Monravel’s six scented remedies. The fragrance of Citrus Maxima is composed in Grasse with a French perfumer.

What is a small 70 g scented candle?

It is the small format of our scented candles. The Petite Candle · 70 g / 2.4 oz measures Ø 6 cm × H 7 cm and burns for about 20 hours. All six of our scented remedies come in this format; our collection of small scented candles brings them together. Our botanical candles are poured in the Loire Valley.

Citrus Maxima carries the light of a Mediterranean morning: mandora, blood orange and orange blossom, with a trail of neroli. Bitter orange petitgrain joins the citrus notes; citrus leaves and a stalk of rhubarb add a tangy freshness. This candle belongs to the Energy virtue: a fresh start, awakened senses, a clear mind. Discover Citrus Maxima as a Petite Candle.

Why start with a small scented candle?

First, to get to know a composition. A small candle gives you time to learn its notes, morning after morning, before moving on, if you wish, to Citrus Maxima as a Signature Candle · 240 g / 8.4 oz, which burns for about 60 hours.

Then, to try several. Six scented remedies, four virtues: from morning energy to evening rest, one small candle after another.

The Citrus Maxima ritual is simple. Light it in the morning, when you are looking for a fresh start, and let it burn for one to two hours, until the whole surface of the wax has melted. Our advice on how to burn a scented candle well covers each step.

To discover three at once, the Trio Gift Set No. 1 “From Dawn to Dusk” brings together three 70 g Petite Candles in their deep blue box: Citrus Maxima in the morning, Ode au Cyprès in the afternoon, Éclat du Kerala at the end of the day.

Neroli, orange blossom, petitgrain: what does the bitter orange tree give?

The bitter orange tree, or bigarade (Citrus × aurantium), was born in Asia from a cross between the pomelo and the mandarin. It reached Europe with Arab traders from the 10th century, probably by way of Sicily and the Iberian Peninsula.

It flowers in spring, from March to May depending on the region, and its white flowers are picked by hand. Steam-distilled, they give neroli; it takes about a tonne of flowers to obtain one kilo. The scented water that separates from the oil during distillation is orange flower water. Extracted with a solvent, the flowers also give orange blossom absolute.

The leaves and young twigs of the bitter orange tree, distilled in turn, give bitter orange petitgrain. Its name is said to come from the small green fruits that were once distilled.

Tradition links the word “neroli” to Marie-Anne de La Trémoille, princess of Nerola, who is said to have made gloves scented with this essence fashionable in the late 17th century.

In Citrus Maxima, all three names appear among the notes: orange blossom and neroli, which the House calls “sunlit flowers”, and bitter orange petitgrain, alongside mandora and blood orange.

Which scented remedy for a first candle?

Each of our scented remedies answers to a virtue: Energy, Joy, Serenity or Rest. All six come as a Petite Candle.

  • Citrus Maxima, Energy: mandora, blood orange and orange blossom, with a trail of neroli, for a fresh start.
  • Jardin d’Embruns, Energy: peppermint, clary sage and wormwood, a green, briny freshness inspired by the Emerald Coast.
  • Lee La Wa Dee, Joy: frangipani, jasmine, ylang-ylang and orange blossom, a sunny, powdery bouquet.
  • Ode au Cyprès, Serenity: cypress, resin, damp leaves and wild rose, for a slow walk.
  • Éclat du Kerala, Serenity: a creamy sandalwood, lifted with saffron and cinnamon.
  • Sancta Myrrha, Rest: myrrh, frankincense and black pepper, in dark swirls.

If it is orange blossom you are looking for, Citrus Maxima is built around it; in Lee La Wa Dee, it accompanies jasmine and frangipani. To be guided, our questionnaire Find your remedy points you in four questions; our guide to choosing your scented candle by your inner state presents the four virtues one by one.
